The Triad

Three Chapters, One Brotherhood.

The Tallahassee Alphas are Beta Nu, Gamma Mu Lambda, and Iota Delta — college and alumni brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. serving as one Triad.

Tallahassee is a unique place for Alpha because our three chapters share so much rich history. Jewel Charles Henry Chapman and Brother Reverend Moses General Miles were both instrumental in establishing Gamma Mu Lambda and Iota Delta, while Beta Nu counts Jewel Chapman as the Father of its Chapter and Gamma Mu Lambda honors him as a key Charter Member and its Founding and First Chapter President.

The Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the oldest college Alpha chapter in Florida, located on the campus of Florida A&M University (FAMU) in Tallahassee. It was founded in 1932 by one of the fraternity's original founders, Jewel Charles Henry Chapman, who taught agriculture at FAMU from 1924 to 1934. Often referred to as "The House That Chapman Built," Beta Nu holds the distinction of being the 56th House of Alpha and the oldest collegiate chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha in the state of Florida. Its legacy is reflected in a long line of notable alumni, including former FAMU President Dr. Frederick S. Humphries, Reverend Moses General Miles, and other prominent university and community leaders. Across nearly a century of service, Beta Nu has remained dedicated to leadership, academic excellence, fellowship, and community service.

The Gamma Mu Lambda Chapter was chartered on Monday, March 4, 1946, under the leadership of our Founding President and Father of GML, Brother Reverend Moses General Miles and a host of key leaders like former FAMU President, Dr. Bro. Dr. Wm. H. Gray, Jr., Southern Vice-President, presiding. The Gamma Mu Lambda (ΓΜΛ) Chapter carries a rich and impactful history in Leon County, Tallahassee, and the State of Florida. We affectionately call ourselves the "Capital City" Chapter as we are seated in Florida's capital; our goal has always been to bring a "brighter light" and hope to this region of our great state. As the 177th House of Alpha and the fifth alumni chapter chartered within the District of Florida in a twenty year span from 1926 to 1946, Gamma Mu Lambda has had a tremendous impact on both the community and the brotherhood, serving as a lighthouse for those who could not see a brighter future and a footstool for those who needed uplifting. We are proud to be the chapter where one of our precious, dearly departed Founding Jewels, Brother Jewel Charles Henry Chapman, is buried. A professor of agriculture at Florida A&M University, his life and legacy are celebrated every year on Founders' Day.

The Iota Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the 401st House of Alpha, chartered on April 5, 1974, at Florida State University by twelve founders known as the "Mystic Dozen." Built on the core values of Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love For All Mankind, Iota Delta brothers have held prominent leadership roles across the FSU campus, including multiple student body presidents, treasurers, senate presidents, Black Student Union presidents, and Homecoming chiefs. The chapter also established an endowed scholarship fund through the FSU Foundation to support current college brothers, with a preference for first generation college students and participants in FSU's C.A.R.E. program. Recognized regionally and nationally, including distinctions such as Collegiate Chapter of the Year, Iota Delta continues to lead through academic excellence, cross campus unity, and service.
